What is the Alpha Series all about? When we first introduced the MTD (Mic Tools for Drummers) product series, we focused our best efforts to give percussionists starting out, either performing live or recording at home, the absolute best sonice performance we could, for the lowest price point possible. Well, a few years have passed and MTD mics have been on stage performing around the world with some of the best artists in the business, I can state, with great confidence and total honesty, we have surpassed our performance goals and it seems most of our customers find our price is simply amazing, given the number and names of many of the amazing professions who enthusiastically use our little microphones on stage and even in the studio. We don't claim these are the best microphones on the market, but we will stand on our initial claim when we started Equation Audio, you won't find a superior product for the same price or less. Kick/Bass: This specialized dynamic mic is super-cardioid and well suited for kick drum, floor toms, and many other low frequency and highly ballistic instruments, like upright bass, tympanis, and even bass amplification. The DMI.104 is the heart of a great drum kit miking system. Snare/Tom: These two dynamic mics have close frequency responses, delivering full spectral coverage, especially when you apply them to snare and toms. The DMI.101's provide a wide, broad, pick-up pattern, while tighter results are achieved with the DMI.102's having a super-cardioid pickup pattern, effective when isolation is a critical concern. The DMI.101 is excellent for simultaneously miking more than one drum, or a string or percussive instrument requiring a broader pickup area. The DMI.102s rock on snare, toms, and even string type instruments that exhibit highly percussive sonic signatures. The 101 and the 102's are the soul of the MTD miking kit. Read more
